About the event
The WyCo Ethnic Festival started in 2006 and has run annually except during the COVID pandemic where it lapsed three years from 2020-2022. What makes our festival unique is that we involve those organizations that make Kansas City Kansas special like the Quindaro Museum, Delaware Native Tribe, Wyandot Native Tribe, The Grinter House, Strawberry Hill Museum, local German, Lithuanian, Mexican, African American, Serbian, and Irish groups, the Hvartski Obicaj Croatian Orchestra, local Gospel music, and the Wyandotte County Museum. The public will view different ethnic dances, music, clothing, foods, art, history, and the traditions of countries around the globe who have come to Wyandotte County to live. Wyandotte County has clearly established itself as one of the most diverse communities in the United States. This festival is a free public event that educates our community about the diverse cultures that live in, work in, attend school in, or have ties to Wyandotte County. We endeavor to create an inclusive event that both celebrates our ethnic differences and recognizes our “common humanity’ as part of developing a Beloved Community, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
